Mrs. Kyla Trinette Slaughter was born to the Honorable Judge Carl and Dalline Brown in Augusta, Georgia. She is the third child of five siblings. In 1995 Kyla graduated from John S. Davidson Fine Arts School in Augusta, Georgia with a concentration in dance. In May 1999 she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology from the University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia.

While matriculating in college Kyla volunteered at the Shelter for Abuse Children in Augusta, Georgia and she was a mentor for at risk kids in Athens, Georgia. After graduating from the University of Georgia in 1999, Kyla obtained employment with the Georgia Department of Human Resources where she worked for 12 years.

Drawn by a sincere desire to help the less fortunate and underserved, Kyla earned a Master of Public Health from Mercer University School of Medicine Public Health Program in community-based health focusing on Maternal, Child and Infant Health. While in graduate school and working for the Department of Human Resources, Kyla began volunteering for Prevent Child Abuse Heart of Georgia as a Nurturing Facilitator. Kyla went into the homes and drug rehabilitation centers of women that were in treatment to facilitate a nurturing program that would allow them to keep their children while in treatment.

Her love of God is not something that Kyla treats lightly as she lives by example. Matthew 25:40 "….Inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these, you did it to me." It is also evidenced within the social services sector in Georgia as well as in the Church as an advisor to the Youth Ministry. Kyla’s philosophy is quite simple, each one; teach one. Using the words of one of her favorite quotes from George Washington Carver, "How far you go in life depends on your being tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving and tolerant of the weak and strong. Because someday in life you will have been all of these." Anyone who knows Kyla, knows that for her caring for others is a way of life!

On September 13, 2003, at Paine College Gilbert-Lambuth Chapel in Augusta, Georgia, Kyla was married to Rev. Ronald L. Slaughter and now they are parents of Kellyn, Kylynn, and Ronald II (R2). Although Kyla has received awards, accolades, and honors, her most rewarding part of life is being a wife and mother.
